Michael E. Melcher, 23, of 133 Bellwood Drive, East Alton, was pronounced dead on arrival at 1:55 a.m. March 29, 1974 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was employed at Owens-Illinois Inc. in the forming department. 

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilhite of East Alton; a daughter, Jennifer Beth Melcher of East Alton; a sister, Mrs. Shirley Briggs of Japan; a step-sister, Miss Sue Wilhite of East Alton; a brother, Patrick Melcher of East Alton; and three step-brothers, Robert Wilhite of Chicago, Dennis Wilhite of Germany and Terry Wilhite of East Alton.

Visitation and funeral services were held at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, with the Rev. Raleigh Gordon officiating.  Burial was in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
