So sad to learn this about Delbert. #63, a great teammate and a really good person. Always admired his positive attitude and willingness to work together. I think he worked with my cousin John at Olin.....Always remember the game - we were winning pretty big - he audibled(changed) the line call from guards pulling saying - "I'm tired"....brought a quite a laugh and great memory.....RIP gentle soul. Joan, what a beautiful, beautiful story. Copyright 2009, I would like to print a copy for future personal reference with your permission. What was your profession? Thank you for an inspirational lift today! Best Wishes, Steven Bacus
So very sorry to read about this. What a great guy and teammate. Shared lots of games - always knew his stuff and made everyone better when he was on the field. Remember visiting Alton years ago and watched Punkin and Terry 'Mitch' Mitchell coach, dont know if it was varsity or F/S, didn't matter...they were giving their players great examples of being accountable and reliable. We had journalism class together senior year and that was great fun....soph year he made a great impression on coaches and moved up to varsity....he made an impression in all aspects of his life with - good humor, relaxed ways and a great smile....Rest in Peace my friend. Great comments from everyone.....remember Steve most from Boy Scout Troop 57 - Milton School. He was a great scout and very involved. Many camp outs over the scouting years...fiece 'Capture the Flag' player and seemingly always a big smile! Happy Trails, Mohawk Patrol Leader or Assistant Leader (if memory serves)....Steve
Way too young...Eddie was a great teammate and good person....very sad for his loved ones.....remember many of the guys called him 'Moose'....sad to see this news.....

My sympathies to David's family. My memory of David goes back before kindergarten...David lived on Brown Street near a corner supported by 'Student Crossing Guards'...these were upper classmen (5th & 6th graders attending Horace Mann School)...guards assembled each morning before school at lunch recess and when school dismissed...their 'uniform' was a white 'belt' and sash with shiny badges, and armed with a cane pole with a red flag attached (sorry for the long desription...am sure many of you remember)....David's mother made him a 'uniform' before he entered school - maybe age 4, and he would march to his corner and assist the offical guards. I believe the teacher in charge of this opertation was Mrs. Meyers - she loved David's immulation and when it came time for him to advance through school to the proper grade, she named David to be the Guard Captain - a lofty postion and great honor!
