Surrounded by family and friends, Francine Beth (Brooks) Goodrich, 74, passed away on September 6, 2025, following the return of stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasized to her bones. Her final days were spent under the incredible care of the staff at Hopewell Hospice House, Portland, Oregon
Francine was born on February 3,1951, to the late George and Alice (Fry) Brooks. On May 22, 1970, she married Bruce Baxter Goodrich at the Main Street Methodist Church in Alton, Illinois. During their 55 years of marriage, they were blessed to raise three children: Aaron Thomas Goodrich, Joshua Shane Goodrich, and Elizabeth “Beth” Brooke Goodrich. After moving to Portland, she had worked as a Public Health Nurse Consultant for the State of Oregon.
In addition to her husband, "Butch," Fran is survived by son Aaron and his wife Cyndi and their two children, Caleb Alton Goodrich and Darby Rose Goodrich of Portland, Oregon; son Joshua Shane Goodrich, also of Portland; her brother, George Brooks, of Washington, Georgia; and a sister-in-law Alice Nason and her husband, Steve, of Brussels, Illinois.
In addition to her parents, Francine was preceded in death by an infant brother, William Aaron Brooks. This past year, Francine also lost her beloved daughter, Beth Goodrich, and her brother, Ronald Marion Brooks.
Francine loved all forms of animals (except snakes) but her favorites were wiener dogs that she had most of her life: “Penny” growing up, and “Tasha” when the kids were young and most recently “Holden” the winner of many wiener dog races. No doubt that they all were waiting for her in Heaven along with Beth, family and friends!
Francine is forever in our hearts! Now she flies with butterflies!

I remember Francine as a kind, wise and gracious friend. Though vulnerable to cancer, Francine was and is a victor in Christ and an example to her grateful classmates.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh. My favorite kindergarten "girlfriend" crush in Mrs. Kaiser's class at Horace Mann. I'm so glad to have been able to re-connect at Mississippi Mud Pottery, thanks to Brenda Fowler, some years ago, before she moved to the Northwest U.S, An adorable woman. Bless ya' Sis. Peace.
Irene Beach (McLaughlin)
Francine has been my best friend since we were in first grade together in Mrs. Patterson's class. As you go through life we both had our own interests etc. but always remained close and connected. We had so many laughs and wonderful memories. We were both maid of honor in each other's wedding.
When she and her husband Butch moved to Oregon we still would talk and also went to visit them with Doug and Stephanie Mendenhall. We had a great time!
I retired first then Francine . We went to London and Paris to celebrate. It was such a great trip, and we were both so glad to have been able to celebrate our retirement together!
Francine was a trooper in her fight against her cancer. Thankful she is in peace and pain no more!
Love you dear friend!

Jack and Jon, you are spot on about Francine's smile. The last time Francine and I talked, that captivating smile was there, just as I remembered from grade school. The loss of Francine reinforces the bond that many of us shared after attending grade school in the same class year after year. Tommy, Jeannie, Martha, Alan, Irene and all of my classmates at Horace Mann, please know how much you have meant to me through out the years and how much I have cherished our friendships! I love you all. Bill
